About Brythony

To understand what Brythony is you first need to understand what Second Life is. To learn more about Second Life go here:

So the short answer is SL is not a game - it is a virtual world where you create a little 3d avatar that either looks like you or not - then you explore the world and visit the places that tons of creative people have made. You can watch a movie, play games, shop, visit with friends, do business, create, surf, be a mermaid, roleplay....the list goes on.

What we are doing in SL is this: We have an island - called Brythony - inspired by the landscape of Wales it is a fantasy and mythic based place. It is beautiful and hilly and welcomes all people - but is specifically geared towards mythic, fantasy, fairy, steampunk and pagan interests.

Brythony Fantasy Market is the commercial area of Brythony Isles. Its sister isle Caer Llyr is residential homes only. Brythony itself features a castle, small market area, enchanted forest with a waterfall, huge mountain range with a hidden tiny Purrsnicketys world inside it, an underground Fairy Mafia lair, a Celtic Pub and lots of other nooks for exploration.

First be aware that if you want to join us in Brythony - whether you are an artist or not we would love to have you and you DON'T have to rent a shop or spend any money. Just log onto SL - do a search on Brythony and show up. Find me in world - Brigid Yoshikawa - and I will add you to our group and you are officially one of the clan. So don't feel like this is going to cost you a dime - it doesn't' have to.

The fantasy Market at Brythony is open to anyone but is specifically geared to RL fantasy artists. Brythony's market is a way for you to have effectively a 3D website in a sense. It's a marketing opportunity - so you should not go into this expecting to make real significant money off of your SL store. If you wish to rent a shop please email me to inquire.

Can you make money in Second Life? Yes - but you can pretty much only expect that if you are making things such as houses, skins, clothes, furniture etc - and making them yourself. Selling prints of your art in SL is just not profitable. However all of our artists include links to their real life websites in their booths and many have noticed an increase in sales because of this.

So who runs this place? Well I do. Brigid Ashwood is my name in Real Life and Brigid Yoshikawa is my name in SL. But I run Brythony very loosely. In that I don't want, nor do I think we need a lot of rules. We are all expected to be courteous and gracious and try to work out any disputes as adults. That simple.

The goal of Brythony is an open and FRIENDLY co-op of sorts of artists. We support and cheer each other on. It is a community project. I may own the isles but I want them to be in service to the community, I want it to feel like a home to those who participate.

Also one last thing. We do not have a jurying process. Any fine artist can feel free to rent a shop/booth at Brythony. We only require that you have website and be selling your work professionally in some capacity outside SL. (this only applies to 2d fantasy artists - not in world content creators) We thought long and hard about this. As a community of peers we don't feel comfortable jurying and judging others. So if you have the funds you get to rent the booth of your choice on a first come first serve basis. The more the merrier that is our motto.

Now the Fun Stuff....

Aside from the all this art stuff and setting up booths and selling things Brythony is also a place to have fun! We have a residential area and the marketplace. We have classes and parties in world. We get together and dance and chat and watch movies! I go on dates with my Husband in SL and love to go shopping with friends. Whatever you can dream up you can make happen in SL.
